Following a mass cleanout at the conclusion of the Western Sydney Wanderers' third A-League campaign in existence, the new-look side has provided much promise for the large quantity of fans across Australia through their 80% pre-season record so far. The Wanderers have won four of five games in the pre-season including a 3-0  victory over Mt Druitt (goals to Mark Bridge, Romeo Castelen and trialist Kevin Ly); and a 3-0  win against Canberra FC (goals to Bridge, Federico Piovaccari and Brendon Santalab). Their two further victories were accomplished within the FFA Cup with a 1-0 success over a full-strength Brisbane Roar side thanks to a goal from Golgol Mebrahtu before disposing of a lesser-known Palm Beach Sharks side on the Gold Coast on Tuesday night, 2-0 with goals to new Spanish recruit, Dimas Delgado and a rare goal for defender, Brendan Hamill.

Tony Popovic released a total of thirteen players following their 9th placed finish in the 2014-15 season before selling a further four. The cleanout included foundation members, Ante Covic, Iacopo La Rocca, Jason Trifiro and starters of their Asian Champions League success, Antony Golec and Tomi Juric. Australian International Matthew Spiranovic (China) and foundation members Labinot Haliti and Mateo Poljak (Newcastle Jets) also departed much to the dismay of the fans. However they look to have recruited well in preparation for the new season following the string of good results lately. Nine signings have been made to this date; Scott Jamieson (Perth Glory), Scott Neville and Jacob Pepper (Newcastle Jets), Andrew Redmayne (Melbourne City), Spanish recruits;  Andreu (Racing Santander), Dimas Delgado and Alberto Aguilar (Free Agents), Mitch Nichols (Cerezo Osaka) and Italian striker, Federico Piovaccari, also a free agent. However whether they can gel quickly enough in order to pose a threat on the 11th season of the competition is yet to be assessed. Watch this space...
